When trying to locate someone quickly with a hotmail reverse E mail search, it can be very time consuming as well as disheartening. The reason for this, is that most people do not use their real names, or real information when obtaining an email address.

One of the largest free email services on the internet, is now Hotmail. Most people use Hotmail to be able to talk with friends using Windows Live Messenger or just as a free internet email address to give out to friends. Since PayPal has become so popular as well, people are using Hotmail to sign up for an email address to use for PayPal.

If someone you are looking for has been using the Internet for quite a while now, chances are they have used their correct names and information. If so, it will make it a lot easier to track that person down. Some people, however, still use fake names and information, making it more and more difficult to track the real person down.

If you are trying to find that long lost friend, or loved one, and having difficulties using the traditional reverse Hotmail Email Search, there are professional companies who can help. These companies do charge a small fee to use their services, but in the long run the fee can be worth the charge, to avoid long hours of searching. These companies can also access companies such as AOL, MSN, yahoo, Facebook, MySpace as well as other providers, that a typical person would not be able to access. These companies only allow professional searchers to access their database.

With as advanced as technology is these days, it is very easy to find in less than 15 seconds who you are looking for!

Here is my best recommendation for a Email Address Lookup that will give you accurate information. It will save you time and frustration.

Their search takes less than 15 seconds.

They could have a variety of emails from different services.

Aaron Goldberg asked:

SMTP was email’s first standard that was really important. The reason why it was so important is because it was the protocol for sending messages. In fact, it was short for simple message transfer protocol, or SMTP. This standard was incredibly easy and today it is still used.

The one problem with SMTP is that when it was developed there was no thought put into how the person sending the message would be confirmed as that actual person or entity. As a result, email forgery was quite simple to accomplish and still occurs today. The flaws that occurred in the initial SMTP would be taken advantage of, too, and fall victim to worms, viruses, and spammers. Today, there are still problems with viruses, worms, spammers, and identity thieves. There are new programs to help individuals fight these problems, but they still exist. Unfortunately, this works against email marketing because people are so wary about what shows up in their email inbox and if it is really from the person claiming to send it.

Email continued to evolve and develop and as it did there were some features that were added that were really interesting. Eudora was a commercial system that was one of the first really good ones and then later Pegasus showed up and it was good, too. Soon, Internet standards were necessary for email and as they matured POP servers became practically standard, too. POP stands for Post Office Protocol. The reason this was important was because it allowed all email programs to work with one another. Without a standard there would be lots of programs but people could not communicate across these programs. That’ why POP became popular and standard.

During this time email users had to use dial up to connect to the Internet and since they were using a phone line there were per minute charges. Generally, people on the Internet during this time frame were only on so they could send emails. Then, email got a boost like never before with interfaces from providers Hotmail, Yahoo, and others. This was amazing because it allowed pretty much anyone who had access to the Internet the ability to have an email address without having to own a computer or even have an Internet connection. When this became available everyone everywhere wanted email and they got it. There are more than 600 million people with email today and the numbers are growing by the minute.

Thanks to the standards of email and the mass availability of email thanks to Hotmail and Yahoo, today email marketing is a great way to sell a product or service because hundreds, thousands, or even millions of individuals may be contacted in a matter of minutes. That’s amazing power and it is all thanks to email and its evolution.

Mitchell Harper asked:

Last week Eddie and Rodney were attempting to send an email to a Hotmail account we’ve setup to make sure our emails get to the intended recipients without any problems.

Our mail server was reporting that the emails were being delivered, however we couldn’t see them in our Hotmail account. The emails weren’t bouncing back and they weren’t appearing in the junk mail folder. Puzzling to say the least.

If you’ve ever been in a situation like this with one of the big email providers including Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo and AOL then you know it’s frustrating and confusing to those of us who send emails regularly.

We have over 95,000 people on our mailing list and after a quick look at the list I noticed a large majority of our subscribers use one of the big email providers mentioned above. If our newsletter failed to get into the inbox of all of these people we’d probably only reach 10,000 – 20,000 subscribers (between 10% and 20% of our total subscribers); hardly what we want.

Getting Your Email There on Time

What would be some of the reasons why your email might not reach the intended recipient? The first problem are you subscribers, believe it or not.

How many times have you personally signed up for a mailing list (even using double opt-in) and then clicked the “Mark as Spam” button in your email client because you couldn’t remember when you in-fact did sign up? I know I’ve done this on many occasions.

This hurts companies who send legitimate emails, because if enough recipients mark their emails as spam, the big email providers take notice and ban their mail server. This process is called black listing and once your mail server’s black listed it’s extremely difficult to get off the list. More on that later.

Next up there’s the spam algorithms and other checks that mail servers employ. AOL for example used to implement a technique called rate limiting whereby they would only accept a certain amount of emails from a mail server at a time – send more than you’re allowed to and you’re considered a spammer and were black listed.

All of the big email providers have their own proprietary algorithms for checking and deal with email spam. The good news is that a lot of the things the algorithms check for are easy to avoid.

Take a look an article Eddie wrote called “Avoiding the Spam Filters and Other Email Marketing Tips”. Follow the steps he talks about in the article and you’ll improve the chance of your email getting through significantly.

More Ways to Avoid the Spam Filters

After doing some research using our good friend Google, we’ve put together a list of things you can do to reduce the chance of your email being marked as spam and/or never reaching the intended recipient in the first place:

* Make sure your list only contains double opt-in subscribers. Sure your list won’t be as big as it would if you didn’t require opt-in confirmation, but it will be safer, more valid and subscribers will be less likely to flag your emails as spam or complain to their email provider. * Using the link to Eddie’s article above, do your absolute best to make sure your email doesn’t look like spam. The spam filters are smart, and for everything it finds in your email that looks like spam it gives you one point. When you get to a certain number of points your email is rejected, so the less spam points the better. * Check to see if your mail server has already been blacklisted. You want to check your ISP’s mail server or the mail server of your web host. To see the IP address of the server sending your emails just send an email through your mail server to yourself and view the headers of the email in your email client.

The last received line in the headers will contain the IP address of your ISP or web hosts mail server through which your email was sent. For example, you might see 3 received lines in the header, like this:

Received: mail.somehost.com Received: 220.403.8.65 Received: 201.56.88.31

In the example above the IP address of your mail server would be 201.56.88.31

Once you’ve found your mail server’s IP address read this helpful article. It lists the different sites you can check to see if your mail server has been blacklisted. * Check with the postmaster services of the big email companies to see why they are rejecting your emails. If you don’t know what a postmaster is, here’s Google’s definition:

A special type of user responsible for tracking failed mail delivery. A post-master is responsible for following up on queries from users and other postmasters. Internet standards require that the postmaster account be valid at every domain.

AOL’s postmaster is http://postmaster.aol.com/ and Hotmail’s is http://postmaster.hotmail.com/. You can find postmaster details for other email services with a quick search on Google.

One thing to remember about postmaster services is that they make it difficult to get your email through. The theory is that the harder they make it, the less effort spammers will give, thus stopping the majority of them from trying. * You may also want to use one of the email accreditation services available, such as SPF (sender policy framework) records for your mailer or DomainKeys. You can also look at services such as SuretyMail to help improve the deliverability of your emails, particularly if you’re trying to send millions of emails per month.

I won’t go into too much detail, but SPF is a way to identify and reject forged addresses in the return path of an email, which is a common technique spammers use to send email. DomainKeys is an email authentication system that was developed at Yahoo. It was designed to verify the name server being used by someone sending bulk email. * Finally, you should educate your subscribers. Immediately after they join your mailing list you should give them a series of steps to white list your email address. White listing is a way of telling their email client to allow all emails from you into their inbox.

Each big email provider has different ways of allowing subscribers to white list email addresses, the most common being to add them to their address book or contacts. For more on white listing see this article on Wikipedia.

Conclusion

Although there’s no fail-safe way to absolutely guarantee all of the emails you send will reach the intended recipients, the tips in this article are an excellent place to start. Email deliverability is a big concern for most businesses (including us) and can mean the difference between a profitable email campaign and one that fails miserably.

microsoft hotmail

Aaron Goldberg asked:

There are many tips for email marketers when it comes to HTML and newsletters, emails, and the like. Unfortunately, there is not one standard for HTML emails across all platforms. There are just too many out there and that means when you are designing something and using HTML you need to leave yourself enough room that the display will look good in all programs. You will also need to test your HTML in various programs including Gmail, Hotmail, AOL, Apple Mail, Outlook 2003, 2000, Outlook Express, Eudora, Mozilla, Apple Entourage, Lotus Notes, Comcast, EarthLink, and many others. It’s amazing, but the HTML code will display differently in all of these. Because of this it is important to keep your html as simple as possible. It’s the only way to ensure your code will look good in all programs.

If you are going to use CSS make sure you do it with inline CSS. Linked files won’t work and will fail miserably. You want to use very little CSS and only for colors or fonts if necessary. Remember, you want to incorporate the CSS in a way that if it fails it isn’t so bad! Also, keep in mind that when using CSS you need to embed it below the body tag ever time. Otherwise, it won’t appear because many email applications that are browser based, like hotmail, Gmail, and the like, will take off the body, head, and html tags so they don’t mix in with the actual web page.

Remember, too, that a period cannot begin any of your HTML code or the lines of your email. This is important to keep in mind because quite a few email servers interpret this as the command for the end of the message. Anything below that period will be stripped away and won’t be seen by your recipients. As a result, it is very important to pay attention to your HTML and CSS and ensure that your email is received as intended. If you have CSS that begins with periods then you need to make sure you add spaces beforehand so it won’t appear as if this is the end of the page command.

Now, as much as you might like the idea of embedding movie files, JavaScript, Flash, or ActiveX in your email newsletter or other marketing emails you need to go ahead and forget it. Of course, you can embed it, but the question is why would you when probably every single one of your subscribers has an anti virus program that will block the application from running? That’s the last thing you want so keep it simple even if you prefer the style of the files mentioned above.

hotmail email login

R.D.Wylder asked:

There are so many email providers out there that it can be difficult to figure out which one will best suit your needs. Here are some of the major factors to consider.

1) Usage: This is generally divided into commercial and non-commercial usage. If you’re simply looking for a personal email address then you won’t need to shell out a dime. You can, of course, pay for upgraded plans if you so desire.

Businesses should ideally have an email address that reflects either the business or domain name. These commercial accounts are usually more secure and feature-driven than personal email accounts. However, the choice is ultimately yours.

2) Availability: Pick a name…any name. Now try to sign up for a Hotmail or Yahoo email account with that name. Chances are if you can think it, it’s been taken. You have a higher probability of getting a short, easy to remember email address from a smaller, lesser known email provider. If you really want to open an email account with one of the larger providers, your best bet is a combination of letters and numbers.

3) Space: I’m going to let you in on a little secret. I’m constantly in contact with freelancing services and clients. I write fiction and always get feedback from readers. I also volunteer as a beta reader so I regularly receive new chapters from authors. I can never seem to find the time to delete all the old emails so they keep piling up. Why am I telling you this? Because I’m using a whopping 2% of my 1GB+ limit.

In the land of email accounts, size does not necessarily matter. Unless you plan on using the same email address for the rest of your life while never deleting a message, or you’re actually certain that you will have use for the space, don’t limit yourself to a huge inbox. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t sign up if you want to, but you’ll probably be fine with an inbox between say 100MB and 250 MB.

4) Security Tools: There are a lot of bad things out there and most of them find their way into your email. I’m not even going to tell what’s been popping up in my junk mail recently. If you’re considering an email provider that doesn’t supply the following, we have one word for you…don’t.

Anti-virus: No self-respecting email account should be without this. If you know that you’re going to be downloading anything at all from your emails, look for an email provider that offers scans using some of the more reliable programs such as Norton or McAfee (please note that this is not a substitute for having your own antivirus installed).

Anti-spam: Users of Yahoo Mail and Hotmail are well acquainted with errant spam creeping into their inbox from time to time. Sigh…anti-spam software rarely seems to be 100% effective, but some protection is better than none.

If you have an absolute zero tolerance for spam, you might want to consider paying for a service such as that offered by Bluebottle. In this sender verification system, only emails from senders who are on you’re allowed list make it to your inbox. Anyone else receives a confirmation message that must be clicked on before the email is allowed. This eliminates the possibility of automated spam getting in.

5) Filters: Yes, sending spam to the bulk folder is a sort of filtering but that’s not quite what I’m talking about. What I mean is that you should have the ability to create folders and send relevant new emails there automatically. This saves time, especially if you receive a lot of emails.

6) Attachments: It is important to remember that not all personal email accounts allow attachments. There are two things to take into consideration: both the total size and the number of files you can send through your email. You’ll need to find a balance between the two. It doesn’t make sense being able to send unlimited files with a size limit of 2 kb per file, now does it?

So, taking all these factors into consideration, which email provider would I recommend?

Yahoo Mail has recently introduced some new mail domains, such as ymail.com, so the unavailability issue may have eased up a bit. Still, there is the question of spam. Nevertheless, it continues to be one of the strongest candidates. Another good email provider is Hush Mail. In terms of paid services, Bluebottle wins hands down…so far. All email providers have their advantages and disadvantages so I’ll leave it up to you to choose the one that’s perfect for you. I hope that this information has been useful to you.

hotmail com login

Rodney Amato asked:

iverability can be tricky. You have to deal with spam filters, blacklisting, whitelisting, bounces and more. In this article I’ll share with you 20+ tips to make sure your emails get delivered. You may need a complete enterprise email marketing system which includes the software to create campaigns, the server and MTA to send email, and expert email deliverability advice.

Frequency and Subscription

* Never send an email to someone that won’t be expecting to get an email from you. Make sure all your sign ups are clear and are double opt in

* Make sure you regularly (7 or 8 days after every send to allow for delivery attempts to non existent domains) remove emails from your list that are bouncing or you may end up sending to spam traps

* Send a smaller email weekly rather than a large one monthly. This will allow you to keep your list more up to date and will keep your newsletters as something expected to your users and less likely to be marked as spam. Smaller emails are also easier for your customers to skim amongst their other emails.

* Always include an unsubscribe link in your emails

* Test and make sure the unsubscribe link actually works. If the unsubscribe returns an error they may just mark you as junk instead of letting you know it’s broken

* Never try to hide who the email is coming from

* Make sure who the email is coming from is going to be who the subscribers expects it to be coming from

* Make the unsubscribe process easier than the subscribe process

Server Setup

* Ensure your mail server is not an open relay – Wikipedia has some information on what this means and you can test this here.

* Ensure that postmaster@yourdomain.com and abuse@yourdomain.com go to someone that can and will actually do something about complaints

* Make sure your forward and reverse dns for your mail server match up

* Ensure your email server is not listed on any RBL (realtime black lists)

* Setup SPF for you domain so that other people have a harder time pretending to be you. This can also help with Hotmail deliverability (SenderID actually but in most cases it works out to the same thing)

* Setup domainkeys to help with deliverability to Yahoo mail accounts

* Some web mail systems (e.g. Hotmail) base (at least in part) junk filtering on the reputation of your ip address. If you have only just gotten an IP and are getting filtered to the junk then you may need to build up reputation as a legitimate mailer before you stop getting filtered to the junk mail folder

* DKIM will become more important in the future but for now (July 2007) it doesn’t seem to be used by anyone

* Ensure that you send from a domain which actually has MX records setup in DNS and that each mail server listed will accept mail for the domain you are sending from

Email Content and Design

* A pretty email is nice to look at but the most important thing is getting your information to your subscriber so don’t get too fancy with the design. Lots of design elements will get stripped out by mail clients and Outlook 2007 will display hardly any of them

* Don’t use spam like words and phrases in your email

* If you include a text part (and you should) be sure to have the content of that be a true text representation of the text in the html version

* Don’t include too many images in your email (1-2 per email should suffice) or some filters will flag it

* Don’t use a similar colour for your text as the background it is on (e.g. medium gray text on light gray background) or some filters will see that as trying to hide text

* Don’t use images or send attachments that are too large. 300Kb should be the absolute max size of the email so be sure to make sure the total for images and attachments comes in well under that (adding a file to an email will increase the size by about 30% just in encoding it) so you need to take that into consideration too

* Make sure the content of the email is what the subscriber signed up to receive. Don’t send them emails about sprockets if they only wanted to know about cogs.

* Don’t include a single large image in your email if you can avoid it since this is how most spam nowadays seems to operate

hotmail emails

Eddie Machaalani asked:

Email marketing, as many of us know, can be a powerful, inexpensive method of reaching our most active potential or existing customers. It can boost not only our direct sales, but also our credibility and referrals.

One of the major benefits of email marketing is that email is free, but obviously this is the same reason why spam has become so popular and so frustrating. With spam comes spam filters and with spam filters comes the blocking of legitimate email.

In this article I’ll try and describe the basic steps that can help reduce the number of emails you send out that get blocked by spam filters — hopefully resulting in a more rewarding marketing effort.

The right selection of words Many spam filters work by analyzing the email based on its content and the words used. Many words — such as free, *** and so forth — are very heavy spam trigger keywords. Your priority should be to avoid such words while keeping your newsletter as professional as possible.

Later in this article I will show you a technique that I use to help me detect words that could trigger spam filters that I may have missed.

Pay attention to your formatting When formatting your email, keep it simple and professional. Excessive use of different colors, fonts, sizes, images and so forth will result in a higher spam filtering rate. Keep your email as clean as possible, and try to stick to a maximum of 2 or 3 different font types and sizes. Overly large sized fonts will surely add to an email being flagged as spam, as will too many images (or not enough text).

Try and use a short and simple stylesheet rather than using font tags excessively. Most spam filters don’t appreciate a multitude of font tags and inline formatting, and the more primitive filters can’t detect stylesheets so they will not penalize as easily.

Consistency is king Use a template if you plan on sending newsletters consistently. This will make sure that all your newsletters look and feel the same. It will also add a touch of professionalism and branding to your newsletters.

Whilst not directly affecting spam filters, this will enable your readers to distinguish your newsletter instantly, thus not reporting it as spam accidentally. Some spam filters work by querying a spam server, whereas others report individual emails as spam. If your email gets reported as spam, then more than likely multiple spam filters will flag your email.

Being consistent with your timing of the newsletter also helps. For example, if you send a newsletter once per month (I personally don’t recommend you send out any more than this, unless you’ve got something really interesting to say), then aim to send it out at the same time, on the same day each month.

Once again, your potential readers will learn to expect your email, adding professionalism and often improving open rates, also reducing accidental spam flagging as well.

Always use Double Opt-in Always make your mailing lists double opt-in. This means that when a user subscribes to your mailing list, they will be sent an email with a link that they must click on to confirm their subscription.

This is very important because many people can accidentally enter an incorrect email address, or even the email address of someone else on purpose. When that person receives a newsletter they did not subscribe to, they will assume they have been spammed, and your newsletter (and possibly your web server) will be reported as spam.

Unsubscribe and Contact Information Every newsletter you send out should contain a way for the reader to unsubscribe. Not doing so is illegal in some countries and is an instant sign of spamming. You should also display your contact information (Phone, Fax and Address) clearly, as this greatly increases confidence in your email and your company, as well as conforms to spam laws in the United States. Contact information also allows a potential customer to contact you if need be.

Test,Test, Test The key to avoiding spam filters is testing. The first method of testing I use is to send the newsletter to multiple email accounts with existing spam filters. For example, I have a Gmail (http://www.gmail.com) account and a Hotmail (http://www.hotmail.com) account that I make sure I send my newsletter to. If the newsletter ends up in the junk folder, then I’ve got some work to do.

I also have a couple of email accounts with different web hosts that have spam filters in place. In particular, they mostly use spam assassin — a popular piece of spam filtering software. Spam assassin is useful because every email that it flags as spam is given a report and a list of why that email was considered spam.

I also have a local spam filtering application called No Spam Today! for Workstations, that runs a local copy of spam assassin on my PC. It acts as a very close replica to the same software used on thousands of servers world-wide. By sending myself copies of the newsletter No Spam Today! — using the spam assassin checking techniques — gives me feedback as to why my email may have been flagged. If I’ve used words or formatting that I shouldn’t have, or if I’ve included too many images, etc.

Conclusion Avoiding spam filters when sending out legitimate newsletters can be a time consuming effort. However, as your mailing list grows, it can also be a very beneficial exercise. I’ve watched open rates of just 2 to 3% soar to a massive 50% and over, simply by applying the techniques described in this article.

In conclusion, I hope that you’ve found the above tips useful and I wish you luck with your email marketing endeavors!

hotmail login page

Mike Adams asked:

Viral marketing is a great way to use the power and nature of the Internet to reach a large number of people quickly and drive a continually growing flood of targeted web traffic to your website. With a successful viral marketing campaign, your website traffic could go from almost nothing to thousands of hits or even hundreds of thousands of hits per day almost overnight.

Viral marketing is a term used for marketing campaigns that grow and spread like a human or computer virus. In a successful viral campaign, people pass the marketing material on socially so that the marketing campaign grows like a snowball rolling down hill.

The basic idea of viral marketing is that you can increase your sales by increasing your targeted website traffic and you can increase your targeted web traffic by giving away or spreading something for free that people will pass on to their friends, family, or business associates like a virus.

Viral campaigns may spread through emails or eBooks that people pass on or through articles or viral videos that people pass on.

Microsoft’s Hotmail service was probably one of the biggest early successes of viral marketing. Free web-based email is common today, but it was a new concept in 1996 when Microsoft first promoted Hotmail by adding a short advertising teaser at the end of its users’ email messages. Who would have ever expected how big the results of this marketing campaign could be?

But as huge as the success of Microsoft’s viral marketing campaign was for Hotmail, it only set the stage for what was to come during the 2004 American presidential campaign. Who can forget JibJab’s flash animation political parody of George Bush and John Kerry singing, “This Land Is Your Land?”

By marrying the concept of flash video on the Web to viral marketing, JibJab took the Internet by storm. According to Internet statistician ComScore Media Metrix, the viral video received over 10.4 million unique hits in July 2004 – more than three times as many visitors as the official campaign websites of the two presidential candidates!

Now you may never experience the phenomenal success that JibJab did with one of your viral marketing campaigns, but the concept is simple and easily implemented. It works on the idea that if people like something or can profit from something, they will pass it on to their friends, family, and associates.

Viral marketing can be as simple as writing an article and having it published in article directories where newsletter publishers and webmasters may pick it up and republish it. Be sure to include an author bio or resource box at the bottom of every article that includes your name, your website link, and a call to action that entices people to click on your link. Webmasters and publishers are always looking for great content, so be sure to provide value.

Alternatively, you could send a funny, informative, or controversial newsletter to your subscriber list. Be sure to encourage people to pass your newsletter on with a short note at the bottom of your newsletter.

When people click through to your website, you would like to capture their email address and get their permission to contact them. Otherwise, they will often surf away, never to be seen again on your website.

Squeeze pages (pages primarily designed to get subscribers) are one proven way to do this, and offering people a free eBook or free report is a great way to get people to subscribe to your newsletter.

Want to kick your viral marketing campaign into even higher gear? Grant people the rights to give away the free eBook or report to their own customers or contacts. Be sure to brand the eBook or report with links to your website, so that anyone who receives it from others will find their way back to your website. Also, if you let your customers rebrand some of the links with their affiliate links or other links, they will really be motivated to pass the eBook or report on!

The Internet is perfect for viral marketing. This is one of the most powerful marketing techniques you can use on the Internet. Because many distribution channels are free (e.g., email and article directories) or relatively low cost (web hosting), viral marketing can be an incredibly cost-effective marketing technique. Once you have launched your marketing campaign, it can potentially grow and spread for years all by itself, making viral marketing possibly the most effective Internet marketing technique of all.

MARK

Jimson Lee asked:

This may feel like a mini-course in ancient history, but I am only going back 20 years.

Back in the mid 1980’s during University, my email was a mcgill.ca address while my American associates had an “.edu” email address. Access to these systems was through a Telnet session at any of the school’s terminals. From home, I could dial-in to a SLIP server with a 2400 baud modem, and get my email as long as I had a Telnet client.

Those who didn’t go to College had access to a Freenet account, which was also accessible through Telnet.

When I graduated and had to pay for an Internet Service Provider, I accessed email through POP and SMTP with Outlook or Eudora for years until I needed the ability to access the web from anywhere in the world. IMAP helped bridge the gap as long as the mail client was setup on my work and home computer so all my mail, Inbox, Sent Items, and Drafts, were synchronized.

With the popularity of web based emails by the mid 1990’s, the big 3 were MSN’s Hotmail, Yahoo! and Google’s Gmail. People would change or have multiple accounts as storage space was often the biggest headache. It wasn’t long ago when 2 megabytes was the maximum storage space. Gmail was the first to offer 2 gigabytes of storage, and continuously growing.

Most web based email providers had the ability to download POP email, but your email “from” or “reply-to” address was usually your web based email address. This is acceptable for personal use, but not for corporate use.

At a corporate level, Microsoft Exchange combined with the Outlook client was extremely popular, and is still popular today. Exchange is a messaging and groupware server that uses IMAP as one of the many protocols to access email. It also has the Outlook Web Access feature which was more convenient than conventional web based email as it had your contacts, shared calendars and public folders.

Today, I still like using Outlook, as it offers a great “store and forward” mechanism: the ability to work off-line on my laptop. I can easily work in Draft mode on an airplane and connect to the Internet to synchronize my mailbox when back on land. Plus, my Contacts are synchronized with my Palm PDA or Blackberry wireless handheld device.

Sure, I could download my Yahoo or Gmail to my Outlook by using POP, but it wouldn’t synchronize any changes. It also depends if my mail was deleted on the server after downloading, or stored on the server. Sorting email can be painfully slow with Yahoo compared to Gmail’s lightning fast search algorithm, but you can’t sort by file size, for example.

Now that Gmail supports IMAP, by combining it with Outlook, I combine the best of both worlds. There are some features of Outlook I cannot live without, and with the popularity of social networking, integration with LinkedIn or Facebook makes it more appealing.

There is a trend for personal email decreasing in favor of Instant Messaging and text messaging via cell phone. However, Email will always have a place in the corporate world.

ARTURO

Klajdi Hena asked:

Dear readers.

As we all know, there are literaly thousands of websites offering free e-mail addresses. Of course that there are some that offer paid e-mail addresses. But ask yourself a question; do you really need a paid e-mail address, when you can get up to 5GB storage with a free e-mail address? I don’t think so. Now, with the Hotmail update, you get up to 5GB. I think this beats Google’s GMail, which is currently just under 3GB. But I got to say, although Hotmail gives people more space, GMail still the best. It has way more better features than Hotmail. But for now, Hotmail and GMail are competing against each other. But for a professional, comparing these two would be easy. GMail is way better that Hotmail. But for a regular person who doesn’t know that much about internet Hotmail is better because of the storage. Let face it, a regular person is never going to use that much storage anyways. So why bother! So the GMail and Hotmail are the top two free e-mail providers. And in the third place comes Yahoo!. Although its very popular all around the world, it only offers 1GB of storage. And its not even close to be as good as GMail or Hotmail. If you asked me, I’d say that Inbox.com is better that Yahoo!. Inbox.com now offers 5GB, same as Hotmail. The only problem with Inbox.com is that is not very popular. But other than that, its OK.

To get a free GMail account visit www.gmail.com

To get a free Hotmail account visit www.msn.com or www.hotmail.com

To get a free Inbox account visit www.inbox.com

To get a free Yahoo! account visit www.yahoo.com

CARLO
